Exploring alternative casting mediums, Fabric Cast Pt. One stems from a desire to eliminate plaster from the slip casting process. Over time, practitioners can accumulate an excess of plaster that cannot be reclaimed and is ultimately discarded as waste. In the search for a new vessel material, fabric emerged as a canvas that mirrors the gestures of both clay and artist. Through the repetition and fluidity of both fabric and slip, no two vessels are alike. Seam lines, folds, and puckering reveal the motion within each form, extending the narrative beyond the ceramic body itself.
As the process becomes a catalyst for form, each movement shapes the final outcome. The beauty lies in the fluency between clay and its fabric counterpart, the pair produces intricate details defined by the mold’s construction, the flow of casting, and the act of deconstruction.
